Our Story

Jack and I are that lucky married couple who can successfully co-mingle business with home life. We’ve been married for 15 years and partners in the company for over a decade. It’s a simple pleasure – we love making food that makes people happy.

- Rachel Byrne, Owner

For over a decade Jack and Rachel Byrne have channeled their shared passion for food and global cuisine into a thriving joint career. Both Jack and Rachel are resourceful and motivated, traits that serve them well in the trenches of operating a small family business. Rachel struck out at age seven, selling her dad’s honey from a roadside stand in rural Virginia. Jack began at 14, washing dishes for a restaurant in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland. The distance between their childhood homes was closed on a chance meeting during Rachel’s study abroad in Belgium. They began traveling the continent and their journeys together took them to the far corners of the earth including Asia and Australia. Throughout their adventures, Jack and Rachel worked in a variety of restaurant kitchens, immersing themselves in the unique ingredients and local culinary customs. They eventually landed in Charleston, South Carolina - a town they loved for its European charm. They put down roots, beginning a family and soon after, a street corner crêperie which became the Charleston Crêpe Company. In 2008, Jack and Rachel debuted another culinary endeavor - Holy City Chocolate - a line of premium sweets. The industrious pair make all of the products by hand in a small kitchen in Charleston. The ingredients are sourced locally when possible and all products are always taste tested (their favorite part) for excellence.
